Mill Valley Seniors for Peace

We are a group of senior citizens who are residents of the Redwoods Retirement Community in Mill Valley, California. Our average age is 86. We are committed to the search for world peace, social justice and genuine democracy.

In January 2003, when the Bush administration threatened a preemptive unilateral war against Iraq, we joined peace-minded people around the world in street demonstrations opposing the war.

Seniors for Peace has continued to demonstrate at Miller Avenue and Camino Alto in Mill Valley every Friday between 4:00 and 5:00pm. Other like-minded citizens frequently join us in a combined effort to carry the Peace message forward.

On Sunday evenings at 6:35pm, we hold a silent candlelight vigil at the Redwoods to connect with other similar-thinking people around the world. With the global community linking together, it is our hope that peace, love and justice will prevail on Earth.

Mill Valley Seniors for Peace demonstrates for Peace and Justice every Friday for 14 years and they continue rain or shine. Friday January 27 it was pouring rain but these folks were on the corner. Mill Valley Seniors For Peace "Conversations with the Founders" Conversations with the Founders" of Mill Valley Seniors for Peace was recorded to commemorate 14 years of work for Peace and Justice. Every Friday these seniors (several in their upper 90's, and one who is 103) along with younger people gather on the corner of Camino Alto and Miller Avenue during afternoon commute time with signs, songs and greetings to the people going. There are lessons about organizing, fortitude, commitment and the power of ideas here. Segment two of Marinations 71.
